Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is the process of slowing down, and gradually stopping, your body’s hair growth altogether.  The laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which in a controlled manner, damages the hair bulb, where the blood supply to the hair originates. This controlled damage inhibits or delays future hair growth.

Traditional hair removal techniques are time consuming, and although it’s optional, many people choose to do it through shaving or waxing. While shaving cuts the hair off at the surface of the skin, waxing removes the hair and its root. However both removal methods require continued maintenance, and it does not effect the hair follicle, the place responsible for hair growth

Health & Medspa uses the GentleYag® Pro laser which targets many follicles at once reducing the ability of hair regrowth. There is no need for downtime after your hair removal session, and you can continue your normal activities right away. A cooling system is built in with the device ensuring that your skin will remain at a safe temperature during and after treatment.

You will need multiple sessions with GentleYag Pro to see a significant reduction in the thickness and coarseness of your targeted body hair. Fortunately, the laser system can target many areas or large areas efficiently, including your:

After your initial series of laser hair removal treatments, you can come back for touch up sessions as needed. 

GentleYag Pro is a powerful Nd:YAG laser that uses a 1064 nanometer light wavelength to target hair follicles. The laser has several settings, and the Health & Medspa team may test a patch of skin to find out which setting works best for your skin.

The melanin, or pigment, within your hair absorbs the light and converts it to heat. The heat raises the temperature of the follicle holding the hair causing controlled damage. Once the follicle is damaged, it may not grow any hair again for a long time.

You will need a series of sessions initially because of how the body grows hair. There are different stages of hair growth, however rarely are all hairs in the same stage of growth at the same time.
